This is just a note to acknowledge and say a big thank you to those members who turned out to support the two working parties we had last month.
Thanks to their efforts we were able to repair the roofs to the shelters damaged by the winter gales. Two of the shelters had to be completely re-felted and we got away with doing some running repairs to the third shelter. All in all a pretty big job but we have tried to strengthen the roof coverings so, fingers crossed, they have a better chance of remaining in situ in future. We are not proposing to do anything further on the shelters until autumn after the season finishes, when we hope to give them a coating of preservative before winter sets in, so help with that would be appreciated when the time comes.
We also carried out some renovation work to the benches and gave them a good sanding down and teak oiling.
The green edges were generally cleared of leaves and tidied up, and a further area of the embankment cleared of weeds and covered in weed control fabric.
The pavilion itself was made ready for the new season.
As you will probably have noticed there has been quite a lot of gardening round the perimeters to improve the area generally. If anyone wishes to donate any plants, shrubs, trees etc these would be gratefully received. Please feel free to plant them wherever you wish including in the area now covered in weed control fabric. Alternatively leave them outside the pavilion with a note of where you would like them planting if you want them in a particular place.
The green continues to be on the heavy side although I think the surface is in a much better state than at this time of year over the last few years and better than most other parks greens I have seen this season. We had some independant work carried out over winter including cutting, spiking and treating for disease which I think has resulted in a better playing surface. For the time being the council are cutting the green twice a week, but that is due to stop in 2020. So we will be keeping a close eye on the state of the green and developments concerning the council.
Regards,
David
